Mine reclamation is the process of restoring land that has been mined to a natural or economically usable state.

Restoration and cleanup of abandoned mines promotes community health and personal physical safety, environmental conservation and future economic growth.   Mines are located in every state and while each state has its own rules, the overall goals of each one is aimed at reclamation or, where reclamation is not achievable, mitigating or remediating hazards to restore land and water use.

There are estimates of as many as 500,000 abandoned mines in our nation.
